80 years ago today 35,000 allied troops were dropped deep behind enemy lines in what is still to this day the largest airborne assault in history. My Dad was one of them. One of the brave men who fought at Arnhem. 1000,s were killed or captured in one of the bloodiest battles of WW2. We will be heading to Arnhem as a mark of respect, and to join the rememberance celebrations. The people of Arnhem will be out in their thousands, with their homes and businesses decorated in the airborne flags, children will line the streets with candles, airborne displays will take place, and wreaths placed at the memorial in the military cemetery. And of course 2 Para will be there as always…..
Shameful that this has had no mention in our mainstream media - another example of whitewashing history.
If you want to see what happened in Arnhem, watch the movie ‘A bridge too far’ and raise a glass to the thousands of brave men that woke up on that misty Sunday morning for the last time.
